Aims

The Master of Arts in Logistics and Supply Chain Management is designed to develop the learner’s ability to acquire the knowledge and skills to undertake critical analysis and problem identification and solving abilities in the field of logistics and supply chain management within an increasingly technology, data-driven, and global sustainability environment focus.

The educational aims of the programme include:

• Advance study of logistics and supply chain management practices in respond to the changing external environment in which logistics and supply chain organisations operate.
• Preparing students for careers in logistics and supply chain management by equipping them with a systematic, broad and integrated understanding and application of key aspects of logistics and supply chain management strategies, technology adoption and business analytics.
• Development of professional and business research skills.
• Application of knowledge and understanding of business and management with an emphasis on solving complex issues, both systematically and logistics and supply chain management practice.

Programme Learning Outcomes

Learners graduating from the Master of Arts in Logistics and Supply Chain Management will be able to:

• Acquire comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of the theory and practice relating to logistics and supply chain management operations.
• Adopt appropriate logistics and SCM tools and strategies in response to volatile, technological and global business environment to enhance performance.
• Examine the role and important contribution of freight transport companies and logistics service providers within the context of national and international supply chains operations.
• Examine the external influences (e.g. political, economic, environmental, technological) which influence the roles of, and interrelationships between, supply chain partners and other stakeholders.
• Examine the relationship between logistics and other supply chain activities (particularly in Purchasing Management and Logistics Management).
• Develop a range of analytical skills, both quantitative and qualitative, necessary for understanding and analysing logistics and supply chain activities.
• Assess the sustainability impacts of supply chain activities and the ways in which the impacts can be implemented, measured and reported

Assessments

The aim of the assessment strategy is to identify formal practices and procedures for assessing and appraising the performance of the learners in order for those judgments and decisions can be reached concerning:

• The progression of learners through the programme.
• How learners have met the programme learning outcomes through a combination of the individual module learning outcomes.
• The provision of feedback information to learners concerning their performance and how they adhered to the generic assessment criteria and the module-specific assessment criteria.
• The award of Cycle 2 level credits for individual modules.

The underpinning principles which drive the assessment strategies adopted for this programme are the profile of the target learners and the programme itself (its philosophy and associated learning outcomes). Assessment will normally be based on the learner successfully demonstrating achievement of an appropriate combination of the following criteria which are aligned to the descriptors for Cycle 2 Master degree qualifications:

• A systematic understanding of a substantial body of knowledge, and a critical awareness of current problems and/or new insights, much of which is at, or informed by, the forefront of the academic discipline, field of study, or area of professional practice;
• A comprehensive understanding of methods and techniques applicable to the practical work-based management issues which require solutions and improvements;
• Originality in the application of knowledge, together with a practical understanding of established principles and practices identify and solve management problems;
• The ability to evaluate and criticise received opinion;
• The ability to make reasoned judgements whilst understanding the limitations on judgements made in the absence of complete data;
• The ability to communicate the results of the programme of research as demonstrated in the style and overall presentation in a professional manner; and
• The ability to reflect and use meta learning as a tool and process to enhance and develop his or her knowledge acquisition, competencies-skills as well as appropriate behavioural changes and development to function as an effective and ethically driven business manager and

Entry Requirements

• A Bachelor’s Degree qualification in any subject or
• A professional qualification equivalent to a degree and a minimum of two years of working experience or
• Mature and high potential candidates without degree or equivalent qualifications but hold Diplomas or Advanced Diplomas with more than six years of work experience of which at least two years are at supervisory / managerial level or
• Mature and high potential candidates without Diploma qualifications but with more than eight years of work experience of which at least three years are at supervisory /managerial and
• Demonstrate English Language proficiency in order to participate in the programme taught in English.

Programme Structure

The Master of Arts in Logistics and Supply Chain Management has a total of 90 ECTS credits and comprises of 6 taught common core modules at 10 ECTS credits each and a 30 ECTS Research Project.

All students will undertake the 6 common core modules (60ECTS) and the 30ECTS Research Project to be eligible to gain the Master specialism award

The Master of Arts in Logistics and Supply Chain Management is delivered to accommodate the need for working professionals balancing their work, travel, and family commitments.
